Experience Survey

The Experience Survey attempts to find out key information about the interior design industry in Hong Kong, including the number of companies and practitioners, the scope of business, practitioners’ education and level of experience, the importance of China market, etc. From the Yellow Pages, TDC directory, interior design magazines, HKIDA and HKIA websites and internet search engines, we identified 1605 individual companies that are potentially involved in interior design. Telephone calls were made to these companies to confirm their existence and operation status, and we are able to verify that there are 1104 interior design companies in operation in Hong Kong. Of these, 392 companies agreed to a 5-minute questionnaire in which they were asked a few simple questions about their scope of business, number of employees and the number of interior designers in their company. Based on this questionnaire, we were able to project that the total number of interior designers in Hong Kong is 6569. In addition to telephone interviews, interior design company heads and designers are asked to fill out a multi-page written questionnaire. The data from this survey is based on data collected from these interviews and questionnaires, as well as from focus group discussions with interior design practitioners.
