HKIDA MASTER TALK 2015

Master Talk draws insights from interior design leaders across the region

HKIDA Master Talk – the first international Interior Design Master Talk was staged in Hong Kong on 22 November 2015.  This full day regional event   entitled, “Interior Design Body of Knowledge”; attracted around 150 interior design practitioners, educators, students from a wide range of interior design/ architecture businesses and functions, joining from Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. HKIDA Chairman, Antony Chan; Vice-Chairman, Horace Pan and six distinguished speakers, including Marc Webb of Takenouchi Webb; Colin Seah of Ministry of Design; Tihamer Salij of Space Intelligence Agency; Wang Yul Lin of Chinese Society of Interior Designers; Eisuke Tachikawa of Nosigner and Joanne Cys of University of Australia explored the insights on the evolving of interior design body of knowledge. The Master Talk provided extensive opportunities for interior designers and students to share their own experiences and personal perspectives on the body of knowledge issues that matter in today’s design world. This Master Talk was funded by the Create Hong Kong of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and well supported by the School of Design and the Jockey Club Design Institute For Social Innovation, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Workshop

The Workshop is the continuity of Master Talk which took place on 23 November 2015. This exclusive workshop provides an opportunity for students to learn abstract design concepts and apply them to real life projects.   38 Design students from Caritas Bianchi College of Careers, Hong Kong Design Institute, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and HKU SPACE, were divided into groups with the leadership of local practitioners and educators to design and create an artistic installation by the end of the workshop.  Each team made use of the recycled bottles and incorporated at least one of the six body of knowledge* into the finished installation.
